On the weekend of 8 to 11 February 2019, the third edition of TecnoCampus in Mataró was held. SomHackathon. This event organized by TecnoCampus together with the Ajuntament de Mataró and Som Mobilitat, had the collaboration of bytemaster other Maresme companies. SomHackathon was a meeting of programmers and related profiles for software development, aimed at university students, FP and high school.

The 3-day event was attended by more than 50 young people of different ages and profiles: programmers, graphic designers and business profiles. The objective, unveiled at the beginning of the event, was the development of an app, web or IoT device for "the living and sustainable management of public space in the city of Mataró". The dozen participating groups worked actively to develop a functional prototype in less than 48 hours. The jury awarded the best projects in two categories: university and FP/bachillerato. Valentina Salinas, Marketing Director of bytemasterMataró, presented the first prize together with the mayor of Mataró, David Bote.

Collaboration and mentoring for SomHackaton

bytemaster attended the event as a sponsor. He also provided two volunteers from our software development team, Samuel Gonzalez and Bruno Villanueva, to act as mentors. They provided the participants with technical and business support for the successful completion of their project.

Reinvesting in the technological talent of the future

bytemaster was participating in this initiative for the first time for two reasons. One was to provide resources for the development of talent in the youngest, and the other to encourage contact spaces for attracting talent. bytemaster a technological partner of a large number of transport and logistics companies, accelerates its digital transformation and entry into the 4.0 industry. As explained by Xavier Camps, general manager of bytemaster We have pioneered many technologies (such as cloud services and unified communications). And that was only possible because of the great talent we have at home. That's why it only seems logical to reinvest from bytemaster in the technological talent of the future."

Word of mouth and dual formation, bets of bytemaster

We believe a lot in word of mouth. The first thing we do when we create a new vacancy is to publish it on our internal blog, in case we can generate references. In addition, we strongly believe in dual training and the relationships that are established between the business fabric and the university. In our case, the relationship with TecnoCampus is close. Anyway, I don't think we can talk about talent detection, but rather about attitude. Xavier Camps explains in an article in the VanguardiaEvents like SomHackaton allow us to detect precisely that: teamwork, discipline, effort. These are, for us, qualities that induce talent."

"The experience has been very enriching and I will certainly repeat it in the future. We were able to meet people with a lot of potential with whom I would like to work in the future." - Samuel Gonzalez, bytemaster.

Our colleagues Samuel and Bruno had the opportunity to help the students with their projects, "even sitting down to schedule some time with them" says Bruno. From this meeting, he bytemasterhas been able to identify profiles of interest for the future, as well as make our organization known.
